Who we are

Big Creek Brethren Church follows Jesus through lives of peace, simplicity, and service. Rooted in scripture and led by the Holy Spirit, we seek another way of living — the way of Jesus.

Our Vision

Our Core Beliefs

We don’t hold to rigid creeds — instead, we seek to do what Jesus did:

  • To seek Christ first and love Him most

  • To affirm and honor the scriptures

  • To live our lives together in community

  • To reach, mend and grow followers of Christ

Our Staff

History

The Church of the Brethren began in 1708 in Schwarzenau, Germany, when a small group of believers sought “another way of living” rooted in the teachings of Jesus. Inspired by the New Testament and shaped by Anabaptist convictions, they emphasized believer’s baptism, personal faith, and a life of community and service.

Carrying this vision across the ocean, many Brethren came to America, where congregations grew around these values of simplicity, discipleship, and love in action. Some of Big Creek’s earliest members were descendants of those pioneers, and in 1894 Big Creek Church of the Brethren was formally established in Cushing, Oklahoma.

From the beginning, our philosophy has been simple: teach the New Testament, nurture personal faith, and live in community. This heritage continues today as we gather for worship, discipleship, and service. We welcome you to join us and become part of this story of faith and fellowship.
